The Acts of the Apostles
Facilitator - John Nieman
The Acts of the Apostles tells the exciting and dramatic story of the emergence of the early Church from the perspecitve of Luke. Luke wrote a two-volume work: his gospel, which tells the whole story of Jesus, his birth, ministry, death and resurrection; and Acts, which tells the story of the Church, its birth, challenges, development and expansion. We'll read through Acts, explore its historical context, and discover what it has to say to us today.
The Anglican Vision
Facilitator: Wayne Heath
In response to requests by some parishioners, we will begin a study of some of the aspects of Anglicanism and the Episcopal Church's position within the Anglican Communion by reading and discussing James Griffiss's work, The Anglican Vision, a one-volume introduction to Anglicanism containing two primary sections -- Origins of Anglicanism, and Anglican Belief and Practice. Griffiss uses stories of his own and others' experiences in seminary and ministry and puts his own belief structure into his discussions. He sees that the Church itself can be viewed as a sacrament and traces some relationshiops between scripture, reason, tradition, liturgy, and spiritual practices that comprise a community. One of the important issues facing the church today is the tension between continuity and change. Griffiss addresses this by focusing on the incarnational aspect of the Church.

Common
Ground
Many times people
simply want to have an extra cup of coffee and enjoy conversation.
Feel free to find a table in the parish hall or a vacant room and
do just that! In this informal setting relationships can be formed
and strengthened on "common ground".
