Fellowship and Education
Worship is the central activity at Holy Trinity. We
have two morning services, the 8:00 a.m. service, which is Rite
I, and the 10:30 a.m. service, usually Rite II. Wednesday afternoon
Eucharist is celebrated at 6:45 p.m. and led by the Canterbury
Community. Thursday evening at 5:15 is Eucharist and a healing
service. Evening Prayer is offered at St. Paul's Church in Pendleton
on
first and
third
Sundays
at
5:00
p.m.
Current
Sunday School (9:15 during the school year)
Sunday School is currently divided into preschool, grade
school, youth (see Journey to Adulthood below), and
several adult sections. Lay persons provide leadership and teaching
for the youth and children, with supervision by the Director
of Christian Formation and direction by the Christian Education
Committee.
Children's Ministry of the Word
A special part of the 10:30 a.m. worship at Holy Trinity
is a children's service, using a children's liturgy of the word,
developed by our current Director of Christian Formation and
a former curate at Holy Trinity. This children's liturgy is now
being used by a number of other churches. The children return
to the main service for Holy Communion. Children from 1st to 5th grade (no
specific age limit) go to the St. Francis Chapel. The younger “lambs” go
into another classroom for an even simpler presentation.
Special Celebrations
Like other Episcopal churches, our programs accent the liturgical calendar, with special celebrations such as an Advent Event, a Twelfth Night party, a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, a Maundy Thursday Vigil by the Cross, an Ascension service, an All Saints Day service, a Pentecost celebration, etc.
A Canterbury Community
is a group of young adults, ages 18-29 in the Episcopal tradition. Though
the Community is led and sponsored by the Episcopal Church, all young
adults from all walks of life are invited and encouraged to join us for
any portion of our program with which they feel comfortable.
The Journey to Adulthood
program balances Scripture, prayer, study, and both serious and playful
activities to nurture the youth of Holy Trinity during their passage
from childhood to
adulthood. Journey to Adulthood includes Rite 13 (usually ages 11-13)
[because of demographics a new group will begin in the fall of 2008],
J2A Journey to Adulthood (usually ages 14-16), and YAC - Young Adults
in Church (usually ages 16-18).
Special programs that enhance life at Holy Trinity
- Saints and Sinners, small groups of adults who meet for informal dinners;
- Newcomers dinners;
- Wednesday night lectures and suppers, usually one series in the fall and one in the spring;
- and Adult Inquirers classes.
In addition, parishioners participate in
- Bible studies,
- Canterbury Way,
- Education For Ministry (EFM),
- Episcopal Church Women (ECW),
- choir, the lectors, the chalice ministry, and Altar Guild,
- Kanuga Parish Weekend,
- and Cursillo.
